Human Bites

Human bites are taken very seriously, even if the bite is minor.   They are considered even more dangerous than animal bites because of the types of bacteria and viruses contained in the human mouth.  If someone cuts his or her knuckles on another person’s teeth, as might happen in a fight, this is also considered a human bite.   Most of the time, the bites are NOT sutured closed because that actually increases the chance of infection, by “sealing the germs in”.

  1. Let it bleed for a little while (within reason).  You want to let the bloodflow, push out as much foreign bacteria that may have been introduced during the cut.
  2. Stop the bleeding by applying pressure.
  3. Wash the wound thoroughly with soap and water.
  4. Apply an antibiotic cream to prevent infection.
  5. Apply a clean bandage. If the bite is bleeding, apply pressure directly on the wound using a sterile bandage or clean cloth until the bleeding stops.
  6. Seek emergency medical care.

If you haven’t had a tetanus shot within five years, your doctor may recommend a booster. In this case you should have the booster within 48 hours of the injury.

Very handy advices. But when I look at those wounds I feel sick. I think that if I would face such event I would pass down.

Never ever in my wildest of dreams I could think of the wounds a human bite can leave like you’ve shown in the image.

I heard that if we don’t have salt for a year or so, our teeth can get even more dangerous than dogs…but this seems to be untrue. I didn’t know how much dangerous even a minor bite can be for anyone.

    Thanks.
